22. Stanford Cardinal
WHY THEY’RE SCARY: It’s been a few years, but opponents in the Pac-12 finally have reason to once again Fear the Tree. Sophomore guard
Chasson Randle (13.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg) is an explosive scorer who like Tennessee’s Stokes, has the potential to win Player of the Year in the conference. Randle came on strong last season, hanging 30 on Arizona State before helping lead the Card to the NIT title. Backcourt mate Aaron Bright (11.7 ppg, 3.7 apg), could also challenge for all-league honors.
WHAT SCARES US: The Cardinal is thin up front with the loss of Josh Owens (11.6 ppg, 5.8 rpg) and Andrew Zimmerman (4 ppg, 2.5 rpg) to graduation. Stanford will count on freshman Rosco Allen to make an immediate impact.
FINAL DESTINATION: Stanford is in better shape than it has been at any point since the Mike Montgomery era ended. Look for the Cardinal to make a serious push at the Pac-12 title.
