9. Duke Blue Devils

WHY THEY’RE SCARY: The Devils return 7-9 center Mason Plumlee (okay, he’s 6-10, but he sure seems like he’s 7-9), sharpshooter Seth Curry (13.2 ppg), fellow sharpshooter and big man Ryan Kelly (11.8 ppg, 5.4 rpg), and bring in a bevy of fresh talent that is commonly acknowledged as the best that Coach K has imported in years. Forward Amile Jefferson and Rasheed Sulaimon were McDonald’s All-Americans and should help the Dookies this season.

WHAT SCARES US: This is the same team that got punked by Lehigh in the first round of the Tournament, minus lottery pick Austin Rivers. Duke also said a teary goodbye to 7-11 center Miles Plumlee (okay, he’s 6-10). There’s nothing stopping a player like C.J. McCollum from lighting these guys up again once they get to the Dance.

FINAL DESTINATION: Duke has had a strange run in the past 5-7 years, with NCAA disappointment and embarrassment surrounding either side  of an amazing run to the 2010 title. This year’s team looks better than last year’s, but it still isn’t a national championship contender.
