2012-13 NBA Preview: Boston Celtics
- Updated: October 15, 2012
3. Boston Celtics
HOW THEY CAN WIN: Accounts of the Celtics’ demise were premature. Boston waded its way through the first half of the 2012 season, treading water and flirting with a losing record before waking up, turning it on and doing what they always do–competing for an NBA championship. Like the Spurs, the Celts have proven that they should never, under any circumstances, be taken lightly. This is Rajon Rondo’s team now, and despite his head-case mentality, Rondo has what it takes to lead the Celtics back to the NBA Finals.
WHY THEY WON’T: The loss of Ray Allen is tough, especially considering the fact that he pulled a Benedict Arnold (or Johnny Damon in these parts) and defected to the hated Heat. But the addition of fellow veteran 2-guard Jason Terry softens the blow. The main concern is injury–especially with KG and Pierce.
FINAL DESTINATION: You’ll probably hear all that chatter again…that the C’s are too old, they’ve made their one last run at a title, and that Danny Ainge should blow it up and start over. Not so fast. This team isn’t old–it’s experienced. And there’s enough in the tank for one more, last, final, last run.
OUR CALL: 47-35.
