2012-13 NBA Preview: New York Knicks
- Updated: October 15, 2012
5. New York Knicks
HOW THEY CAN WIN: It all comes down to Carmelo Anthony, who has, in the tradition of many New York athletes, found a reputation as a talented loser. Anthony spent the summer bringing home the Gold Medal and won an NCAA title at Syracuse, but his ball-stopping ways have landed him in hot water with some die-hard Knicks fans. The intimation that Anthony and Stoudemire can’t play together has gotten a lot of press, but the truth is that the ancillary parts aren’t up to par yet. Point guard Raymond Felton will likely be New York’s second most important player.
WHY THEY WON’T: The Knicks couldn’t get older if they signed Betty White. Counting on Jason Kidd (39), Kurt Thomas (40), Marcus Camby (38) and Rasheed Wallace (38) is just plain dumb. Even backup Pablo Prigioni is the oldest rookie in NBA history at age 35.
FINAL DESTINATION: This team has seen a ridiculous amount of turnover since Anthony arrived, and injuries have contributed to the feeling that the Knicks are never on the same page. An unceremonious exit from the playoffs last season has turned the heat up on this squad. It’s win-or-get-booed time.
OUR CALL: 47-35.
