2012-13 NBA Preview: Denver Nuggets
- Updated: October 20, 2012
7. Denver Nuggets
HOW THEY CAN WIN: The Nuggets took the Lakers to seven games in their first-round playoff series last spring with a bunch of so-called role players and castoffs. This is a tightly-knit group that came together under one of the best coaches in the league in George Karl. The addition of Andre Iguodala (12.4 ppg, 5.5 apg, 6.1 rpg) gives Denver a much-needed go-to scoring option. Ty Lawson (16.4 ppg, 6.6 apg) continues to thrive as one of the NBA’s most underrated point guards, and the maturation of the super-athletic JaVale McGee from league laughingstock into productive player has been remarkable.
WHY THEY WON’T: Although the Nuggets have a bunch of good players and play a fun-to-watch style, the fact is that this team doesn’t have the pieces to contend for the Western Conference title.
FINAL DESTINATION: It should be another fun season in Denver, especially with the addition of Iguodala and the maturation of JaVale McGee. Don’t forget Danilo Gallinari (14.6 ppg) or Kenneth Faried (10.2 ppg, 7.7 rpg), either, both of whom are fan favorites. A lot of fun and plenty of wins are in store. Just not come spring.
OUR CALL: 46-36.
