2012-13 NBA Preview: Golden State Warriors

10. Golden State Warriors

HOW THEY CAN WIN: There’s some playoff buzz surrounding the Warriors this fall, and it’s not without merit. Head coach Mark Jackson has done a nice job of getting the players to buy in to his system, which (gasp) actually requires them to play defense. Shocking, we know. David Lee (20.1 ppg, 9.6 rpg) seems rejuvenated, and could return to his All-Star caliber self this season. If Andrew Bogut (11.3 ppg, 8.3 rpg) can stay out of the trainers’ room, Golden State has a solid frontcourt. The backcourt is promising as well, as Stephen Curry (14.7 ppg, 5.3 apg) and Klay Thompson  (12.5 ppg) have played well together.

WHY THEY WON’T: Injuries. Bogut and Curry have to stay on the floor if the Warriors are going to have any shot of reaching the playoffs. This could be a big year for Curry, whose talents are better suited for the 2-guard than the point.

FINAL DESTINATION: Golden State has a nice foundation, a good coach and some of the most passionate fans in the league. If the Warriors’ stars can stay healthy and one of the young guns (Barnes or Thompson) can step up, this could be a playoff team.

OUR CALL: 38-44.
