Marvin Bagley

Height/Weight: 6-11, 225 lbs.

School: Duke

Class: Freshman

This kid is like a guard who just kept growing. He’s one of the most athletic and fluid bigs you’ll find anywhere, and he’s absolutely explosive around the rim. Bagley is like a scoring vending machine–instead of $1.25, just give him the ball and he’ll dispense something for you—whether it’s a Payday, a stepback jumper, a blow-by post move, thunderous putback dunk, a three (like seemingly every other big these days, he’s got 3-point range), baby hook, or just an authoritative take to the rim. Maybe he can even get you a Snickers?

Bagley averaged 28.5 points in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL), showcasing his array of offensive options there. Watch this kid’s YouTube video for one minute and you’ll understand the hype.

The Arizona native and Sierra Canyon High School star was originally considered the No. 1 prospect in the 2018 class, but decided to reclassify so he could graduate high school early and enroll at Duke. Now, with Wendell Carter and Gary Trent Jr. alongside him, the Blue Devils have by far the best recruiting class in the nation, and Bagley could very well end up being the No. 1 pick in next year’s draft.

The conversation around the No. 1 pick pretty much consists of Bagley, Missouri’s Michael Porter, and Arizona’s DeAndre Ayton. It’ll be interesting to see where these guys stand come spring.

Check out the highlights of this showdown he had in L.A.’s Drew League this summer, going up against Toronto Raptors star DeMar DeRozan:
