How did Deandre Ayton look in his Arizona debut?
- Updated: November 12, 2017
Arizona’s Deandre Ayton is among the next wave of top NBA Draft picks who made their college debuts over the weekend.
Marvin Bagley III looked like Artis Gilmore in his debut for Duke (maybe more because of his ‘fro, but he still went for 25 and 10), Mohamed Bamba looked like a much more athletic Manute Bol in his debut for Texas (15 points, 8 boards), and Arizona big man Deandre Ayton impressed in his first game against Northern Arizona on Friday night.
Like the other two teenage bigs, Ayton looked raw (or at least in early-season form) in his opener, missing some open looks and making a few mistakes on offense. But he also showed off his incredible bounce, a good-looking jumper, and an ability to completely control the paint.
Ayton finished with 19 points, 12 boards and 3 blocks in Arizona’s 101-67 thumping of NAU.
