- Updated: January 13, 2018
Six of the eight Ivy League members saw action Friday night, with the home teams winning the three games.
Yale 78 Brown 72
Yale, after a challenging out of conference road schedule, returned home and held off Brown, 78-72, in the annual Ivy opener for both teams. Trey Phills, who was perfect from the foul line (10 for 10), registered a career-high 23 points. Miye Onti, added 17 and had two critical steals at the end.

The Bulldogs, who were in front by 14 in the first half, led 42-37 at the intermission. Brown came back to grab its only lead, 47-46 on Joshua Howard’s 3-pointer with 16 1/2 minutes left.
Yale regained the lead, never a comfortable one. Obi Okolie made a free throw to get the Bears within a point, 73-72, before Phills made four free throws and Oni one in the final 24 seconds to bring it home.
Yale and Brown meet again next Friday at Providence.
Penn 69 Cornell 61
Penn took the early lead in the Ivy race (2-0), defeating Cornell 69-61 six days after winning its opener against Princeton. Both Quaker victories were at home at the Palestra. A. J. Brodeur led with 18 points, nine rebounds and six assists. It was the 10th consecutive time Penn has taken the Big Red.
Penn (11-5 overall) has won six of its last seven.
Princeton 72 Columbia 56
Princeton, after being upended by Penn in its Ivy opener last week, recovered with an easy 72-56 win at home over Columbia. The Tigers were powered by 15 baskets from three-point land.
Devin Cannady, behind 6-of-12 shooting, led with 17 points. Princeton scored the game’s first eight points and never trailed. Its biggest lead was 32 points after three minutes in the second half.
