Ivy League Roundup: Penn, Harvard both win to stay on top

A triple overtime game in Ithaca and a continuation of the Harvard-Penn first-place tie featured play on Friday (Feb. 16).

The Crimson and Quakers each came out on top to bring their marks to 8-1. Meanwhile, Yale (5-4) broke its third-place deadlock with Brown (4-5) by overcoming last-place Dartmouth (1-8) in Hanover. Brown is now in fourth, tied with Cornell, a surprising winner over fading Princeton in the rare triple overtime game.

Harvard 65, Brown 58

Playing in Cambridge, Mass., did not help namesake Desmond Cambridge, Brown’s high scoring freshman. Harvard held him to 10 points as it won at home to remain tied with Penn in first place, each 8-1. Seth Towns (24) and Christian Juzang (21) led the way. Brandon Anderson scored 17 for Brown. Attendance at Harvard’s small gym was 1,486.

Penn 74, Columbia 62

Penn remained tied with Harvard for the Ivy lead. Devin Goodman had 23 for the Quakers and Mike Smith led the Lions with 16. A full house of 2,008 was unable to push Columbia to a win at home. Penn did not go on top until just over six minutes remained when it was on an 18-0 run.

Yale 77 Dartmouth 65

Yale coasted to its third win in a row at Dartmouth with 23 points by its bench players. Although the Bulldogs won by a deceptive 12 they had a 25-point advantage with 5:40 left.Yale placed three in double figures, Blake Reynolds (17), Miye Oni (15) and Paul Atkins (13). Miles Wright had 18 for the Big Green.

Cornell 107, Princeton 101

Cornell outscored Princeton 13-9 in the third overtime at Ithaca. The game was tied 76-76 at the end of regulation, 82-82 after the first OT, and 88-88 following the next. Matt Morgan scored 31 for Cornell and Devin Cannady 32 in a losing cause for the fading Tigers (3-6). A turnout of 1,193 saw Cornell move up to 4-5,
