Ivy League Roundup: Cornell clinches Ivy tournament bid, Harvard, Penn share title

Penn 99, Brown 93 (1,192)
Never trailing, Penn (12-2) recovered from its last shot loss to Yale 24-hours earlier and bested Brown (4-10) for a share of the Ivy League title. Ryan Betley had a career-high 30 points, 18 of which came on six threes. Desmond Cambridge concluded a brilliant freshman season with 16 for Brown.
Although finishing in a first-place tie with Harvard, the Quakers must settle for a second seed under the tiebreaker system by virtue of the games with third-place Yale. Harvard won both and Penn split with the Bulldogs. As a result, Penn will face Yale in the second game of the Ivy Tournament next Saturday which, to Penn’s distinct advantage, takes place in the Palestra, its home court
Harvard 93, Columbia 74 (1,636)
Harvard (12-2) won a share of the Ivy championship with its 19-point home court victory over Columbia (5-9).
Corey Johnson led the Crimson with 17 points including 15 from behind the arc. Nat Hickman of Columbia was the game’s top point producer with 21. The Crimson will face Cornell in the opener of the Ivy Tournament.
Yale 94, Princeton 90, overtime (1,677)
With nothing at stake but pride, Yale avenged an early season defeat and again went into overtime with Princeton.
Counting non-league games, it was the eighth overtime contest for the Tigers this season.
On Yale’s senior night the Bulldogs improved to 9-5. Princeton, last year’s undefeated league champion and tournament winner, finished 5-9.
Mike Oni and first-year Azar Swain scored 18 points each for Yale, which also had Paul Atkinson (17) and Alex Copeland (16) in double figures.
The score was tied at 79 following 40 minutes of basketball and again at 85 when Oni’s 3-pointer gave Yale the lead it held with 34 seconds remaining in OT. Copeland and Swain clinched it with 6 out of 6 free throws in the last 21 seconds.
Amir Bell’s had 20 in his final game for Princeton.
Cornell 86, Dartmouth 75 (874)
Making the Ivy League postseason despite a sub .500 winning percentage, Cornell (6-8) won at Dartmouth (3-11). The Big Red will go on to face top-seeded Harvard in the opener of the second Ivy tournament on Saturday.
In order to qualify for the event, Cornell (6-8) needed Harvard to beat Columbia and Yale to win over Princeton. Both happened.
Jack Gordon and Matt Morgan each had 16 points for the visitors.
