Harvard puts away Cornell, advances to Ivy title game

PHILADELPHIA – Advancing to the tournament championship, top-seeded Harvard men’s basketball pulled away from fourth-seeded Cornell, 74-55, on Saturday afternoon at the Palestra.
Sophomores Seth Towns and Chris Lewis each tallied double-doubles, with Towns scoring a game-high 24 points with a career-best 12 rebounds and Lewis contributing 16 points and 10 rebounds. Classmate Christian Juzang was also in double figures, finishing with 12.
The Crimson fell behind by seven midway through the first period, 26-19, but responded with an 18-6 run to close the half and take a 37-32 lead into the intermission. Juzang knocked down a trio of clutch triples to close the half, including a bucket from half court as time expired.
Harvard opened up a double-digit advantage, 52-41, just over five minutes into the second half after a 3-pointer from freshman Danilo Djuricic, and the advantage ballooned to 20, 68-48, after a 14-0 Harvard run. Towns and Lewis each had 12 points in the second half, outscoring the Big Red by themselves in the period, 24-23.
The win is Harvard’s first in the two-year history of the Ivy League Tournament, and Harvard went a perfect 3-0 against Cornell this season.
Towns tallied his third double-double of the year with 24 points and 12 rebounds, the latter of which tied a career-high.
Juzang tied a career-high with four made 3-pointers.
Lewis had a game-high five offensive rebounds, en route to his fifth double-double this season.
Game Notes
Harvard improves to 83-92 all-time against Cornell, including six-straight wins in the series.
Harvard had two players with a double-double for the first time since Dec. 6, against Fordham.
The Crimson has held nine opponents this season under 60 points.

Harvard will face the winner of second-seeded Penn and third-seeded Yale on Sunday, March 11 on ESPN2. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2, while the Ivy League Network will have pre-game and post-game coverage.
