Nets’ Jarrett Allen making his name by blocking big names

Jarrett Allen is making his own name by swatting dudes who’ve already made theirs.

The 20-year-old Nets big has rejected a who’s-who of NBA stars this season, sending back Blake Griffin, Giannis, LeBron, and after Wednesday night, Anthony Davis.

LeBron had only been blocked eight times in his career before Allen stuffed him like a Christmas turkey a few weeks ago.

While that stat is patently ridiculous (and quite blatantly shows the breathless, exalted treatment he gets from refs), it’s also pretty damn impressive for Allen.

The Nets took the kid out of Texas with the 22nd pick in the 2017 draft, and while we thought it might take some time for him to develop, he’s made an immediate impact on the defensive end.

Allen denied AD not once but twice on Wednesday night in Brooklyn, adding another signature highlight to a reel that’s already earning him plenty of respect around the league.

The San Diego native is averaging 1.4 blocks per this season. He’s also putting up 11.6 points, 8.1 boards, and is shooting 58 percent from the floor.

Allen’s defense is no doubt part of the reason why the Nets (18-21) have been a pleasant surprise this season, and could hang around the playoff picture come spring.
