Sources: Providence’s Kris Dunn may be out for season

Sources have told RoundballDaily.com that Providence point guard Kris Dunn may be out for the season with a shoulder injury.
Dunn, who injured his right shoulder in an exhibition game against Rhode Island College, did not play in the team’s season opener against Boston College. Friars coach Ed Cooley originally said Dunn was “day-to-day,” but an MRI may have revealed more structural damage.
If Providence loses Dunn, it would be a major blow.
The New London, Conn., product was one of the highest rated players in the country coming out of high school in 2012. He missed the first nine games of the 2012-13 campaign after tearing his shoulder labrum that summer.
The injury affected his play on the court, as the freshman averaged just 5.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 18 starts last season.
Dunn and current Dallas Mavericks prospect Ricky Ledo were supposed to spearhead a turnaround in Providence, as both players were part of the school’s best recruiting class in years in 2012. But Ledo never qualified academically, and bolted for the NBA Draft without playing a game for the Friars.
Losing Dunn for the year would mean another lost season under coach Ed Cooley, whose recruiting acumen had given the school hope for a return to prominence.
