Kentucky leads nation in men’s basketball attendance for 18th time in 21 years
- Updated: June 14, 2016
(RD)–Big Blue Nation never misses on an opportunity to tell you how great it is.
And with good reason.
Kentucky fans rank as some of the nation’s most passionate–if not the most passionate–and they proved it once again, topping the NCAA’s attendance list for the 18th time in 21 seasons.
Kentucky drew 397,148 total fans through 17 home games, or an average of 23,361 per game.
According to the school, since Rupp Arena opened for the 1976-77 season, UK has ranked either first or second in average home attendance every season.
Syracuse, with its spacious Carrier Dome and rabid fan base, came in second on the list, at 21,592 per. Kentucky’s in-state rival Louisville also has its share of passionate fans, as the Cardinals ranked third (20,859).
North Carolina (18,326) and Maryland (17,863) rounded out the top five.
Wisconsin, Indiana, NC State, and Kansas were next, followed by Creighton, Nebraska (surprisingly), Arkansas, Michigan State and BYU.
