NBA Draft Profile: Marcus Morris
- Updated: May 19, 2011
Marcus Morris
SMALL FORWARD
6-9, 234 lbs.
College: Kansas
Class: Junior
STRENGTHS: Marcus emerged as the best player in the Big 12 this past season, leading the Jayhawks in scoring at 17.3 points per game and pulling down 7.2 rebounds per contest. Morris improved every year he played in Lawrence, adding toughness and a refined touch that made him Big 12 Player of the Year in 2011. He is a solid passer, has an excellent touch around the rim, and can step back and knock down a 15-foot jump shot when necessary. Morris is one of the most versatile players in the draft and could play the 3 in the NBA if he can turn a solid jumper into a consistent weapon.
WEAKNESSES: Morris, like most of the Jayhawks, really struggled in the Elite 8 against VCU. He seemed to shy away from big-time moments, and wasn’t really an unstoppable, feed-it-to-him scorer in the low post. He showed moments of toughness, but isn’t powerful enough right now to excel at the power forward in the NBA, so where he fits in on a roster is going to be a question mark. If he can define his position at the next level by adding an NBA-range three-pointer or continuing to improve with the ball, Morris can be a successful small forward in the NBA.
