WHY THEY’RE SCARY: The Buffs rolled through the Pac-12 tournament last March, transforming from also-ran into force of nature in elimination games. Colorado swept through the Staples Center, crashed the Big Dance, and knocked off sixth-seed UNLV in Round 1 just for good measure. Much of the credit for the run belongs to junior swingman Andre Roberson (11.6 ppg, 11.1 rpg), who at 6-7 is a matchup nightmare and potential first-round draft pick. He also won Roundball Daily’s Pac-12 Player of the Year Award.
WHAT SCARES US: Colorado isn’t a basketball school (the way things are going now, it’s not a football school either), with just three NCAA Tournament appearances since 1969. Dealing with the unusually high expectations will be a challenge for head coach Tad Boyle.
FINAL DESTINATION: Anything less than a return to the Dance and a shot at the Sweet 16 would be a disappointment for this group, which also features an excellent PG in Spencer Dinwiddie.
