18. Missouri Tigers

WHY THEY’RE SCARY: Mizzou has a pair of waterbug guards who could come together to make up one of the nation’s best backcourts. Junior Phil Pressey is a relentless defender and phenomenal athlete, and senior Michael Dixon Jr. is a fine playmaker and gifted scorer. Both are under 6-2, but both have ridiculous speed and are difficult checks on offense. Senior forward Laurence Bowers is a talented scorer down low, and Mizzou gets UConn transfer Alex Oriakhi, who was terrific in the Huskies’ 2011 championship run.
WHAT SCARES US: Missouri lost four key players from perhaps the best team in school history last season. Marcus Denmon (17.7 ppg, 5.0 rpg. 2.1 apg) will be impossible to replace, as will the leadership of senior Kim English, who came to Mizzou as a guard and ended up playing power forward at times last year.
FINAL DESTINATION: Norfolk State ruined one of the greatest seasons in Missouri basketball history by shocking the Tigers in Round 1 last March. This year, there won’t be any talk of national titles in Columbia. But Mizzou should be good enough to avenge last year’s NCAA failure.
