14. CLEVELAND CAVALIERS

_____________________________________________________________________

HOW THEY CAN WIN: Kyrie Irving lived up to every syllable of hype he received, putting up 18.5 points and 5.4 assists per game and (almost) helping Cavs fans forget about the LeBron era. He’s performed like a potential franchise player, and could flourish in a system that allows him free reign to make plays for himself and his teammates. The roster is also filled with  shooters and rebounders who could help Irving navigate his way through grueling games in January and February.

WHY THEY WON’T: There’s not enough talent surrounding Irving to consider the Cavs a real threat to make the playoffs. This is the youngest team in the league, and in the NBA, that rarely translates to success. The Cavs will be home come springtime.

FINAL DESTINATION: Like the Wizards, the Cavs just don’t have enough talent surrounding their rising star at point guard. Irving has been great, but there isn’t much of a supporting cast to help him win games. Dion Waiters was a Stretch Armstrong-reach with the No. 4 pick in the draft, so the Cavs may be headed back to the drawing board come June.

KEY PLAYERS:

G Kyrie Irving (18.5 ppg, 5.4 apg)

F Anderson Varajeo (10.8 ppg, 11.5 rpg)

OUR CALL: 20-62. Kyrie can’t save this team from its destiny as one of the worst in the Eastern Conference. Our guess is that he won’t bail like LeBron did, though.
