NBA Preview: Warriors will win it all, only question is, how many will they win?

The NBA season is around the corner, and here at Roundball Daily, we couldn’t be any more excited.

But before you settle into the couch to watch Golden State tool on everybody and Charles Barkley complain about the way things were back in his day, we figured we’d brief you on everything you need to know about this NBA season.

Just how good will the Warriors be?

Filthy. Disgusting. Downright criminal. You know how people say “that’s sick?” This team is going to be terminal. They’ve already shown it during the preseason, when they ran out to an 89-38 lead on the L.A. Clippers (see below), and scored 8 points in 30 seconds against the Lakers.

This team is the Showtime Lakers times the ’96 Bulls, with a little bit of the ’14 Heat thrown in. They’re going to be the best team we’ve ever seen. Book it.

It’s only the preseason, but it’s clear the Warriors are already clicking on all cylinders. They want to share the ball, they want to sprint and run out, they want to set each other up for wide-open looks. They have a natural chemistry that’s already begun percolating, mostly because you can tell that Durant genuinely wants to blend in, make the extra pass, and mesh on this team.

KD is smart enough (both as a player and otherwise) to realize that the only way this whole experiment isn’t going to work is if any of the W’s first-team All-NBA’ers decides he wants to play hero ball. He’s spent enough time with Russell Westbrook to understand that doesn’t work.

Durant genuinely wants to be a part of a great team, and was serious when he said he looked his potential teammates in their eyes and believed that they were on the same page. He’s a sensitive, empathetic dude. This is the guy that gave us the “You the Real MVP” speech. He’s not going to mess this up.

This team will win some games by 60 points. They’ll pull their starters at halftime. It’ll be both bad for competition and great for the NBA.

Can anybody challenge them?

Probably not. I mean, definitely not. But if anybody in the West has any semblance of a shot to beat the W’s in a seven-game series, it’s the Spurs. They zigged when Golden State zagged, doubling down on size and signing Pau Gasol to compliment LaMarcus Aldridge down low.

They’ll need a whole lot of things to go their way, but they had to slide their chips into the center of the table in one area, so they did that down low. They’re hoping they can catch the W’s missing some shots, and that they can punish them on the boards.

Do the Cavs have any chance?

I mean….I would say no, but who knows? They’ve also got a legit front line (which manhandled Golden State last year), two of the best players in the world, one of which is LeBron James. You know he’ll be as motivated as ever to take down this juggernaut, and like last year, he’ll have the collective energy of most of the basketball-watching nation beind him.

Can we talk about the fact that Steve Kerr has lived the most charmed basketball life ever?

I mean…he was friends with Jerry West’s son as a kid, starred at Arizona, played for MJ’s record-breaking Bulls, Pop’s Spurs, won a title in his first year with the W’s, coached the record-breaking Warriors in his second year, and now has Kevin Durant. One of these days, this guy is going to catch a break.
