NBA Draft Profile: Marshon Brooks
- Updated: May 22, 2011
Marshon Brooks
6-5, 195 lbs.
College: Providence
Class: Senior
STRENGTHS: Brooks grabbed national attention last season when he dropped 43 points on Georgetown in February and then followed that up with a 52-point masterpiece against Notre Dame two weeks later. The 6-5 guard lit up the Big East, leading the league in scoring at 24.6 points per game and trailing only BYU’s Jimmer Fredette nationally. He’s lightning-quick, has a great handle, and is one of the easiest scorers in the country. Brooks is a streaky shooter, but has terrific range and tremendous slashing ability, making him near-impossible to guard when he catches fire.
WEAKNESSES: Brooks is rail-thin, and will need to bulk up in order to stick in the NBA. He’s not a great passer, and questions remain about whether he makes his teammates better, although he didn’t have much to work with at Providence. Still, Brooks averaged more turnovers than assists last season, which means that he’s going to have to improve his decision making. He’s got the size to play 2-guard, but isn’t tremendously athletic, so he may have trouble finding his niche in the NBA.
