NBA Draft Profile: Doron Lamb

School:Kentucky

Class: Sophomore

STRENGTHS: The sophomore guard was the old man of this Kentucky group, providing the young Wildcats with insight and life lessons he had learned over the course of his two fulfilling seasons in Lexington. As ridiculous as this sounds, it’s actually kind of true…Lamb, Terrence Jones and senior Darius Miller stepped up as the vocal leaders of the team, and freshmen Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist listened to their elders intently. Lamb made the most of his shot opportunities this season, averaging 13.2 points and shooting over 47 percent from the field, including 46 percent from three-point range. He’s a terrific shooter but was selective in taking shots, and always stayed within the general flow of the offense. He is also going to be a good defender in the NBA because of his good size and length.

WEAKNESSES: He’s not an elite athlete, and may be a man without a true position. Lamb played primarily off the ball in college, but will be expected to take on a point guard role in the NBA. He’s never going to be a huge scoring threat, and may get lost in the shuffle because he doesn’t bring any elite-level skills to the table.

BOTTOM LINE: He’s not going to be a star in the NBA, but Doron Lamb is a great locker room guy and a calming presence on the court. The moment isn’t going to get too big for him. He’s a great complimentary player on a winning team, and could become a crunch time shooter and defender with a Derek Fisher-type ceiling.
