Kay Felder balled out in Oakland’s close loss to No. 1 Michigan State on Tuesday

Tiny Oakland University took No. 1 Michigan State to the wire on Tuesday night, leading the Spartans by as many as 15 before falling in overtime, 99-93, in Detroit.
Michigan State was playing its first game without do-everything guard Denzel Valentine, who will miss 2-3 weeks after having knee surgery.
In Valentine’s absence, the best player on the floor was Oakland’s Kay Felder . The senior guard showed everyone he could play on the national stage, pouring in 37 points, dishing out nine assists, and single-handedly keeping the Golden Grizzlies in the game.
Michigan State coach Tom Izzo raved about Felder after the game, calling him one of the best players he’d ever seen at the Palace of Auburn Hills, home of the Detroit Pistons, where the teams played Tuesday.
Basketball writers gushed about Felder as well, calling him a sure-fire pro:

Felder is just 5-9, 176 pounds, so that’s why he ended up at Oakland (7-4), which has become this year’s favorite in the Horizon League. But, he’s leading the nation in scoring at 25.9 ppg, and also dishing out 8.9 assists per game (ridiculous), giving NBA scouts no choice but to look at him.
