Campbell’s Chris Clemons, Marcus Burk set NCAA record with 10 threes each in win over Liberty
- Updated: January 26, 2018
Basketball has changed.
It used to be that a three-pointer was only considered a good shot when it was an open look, off of a drive or an extra pass, and you had a backcourt player taking the shot.
Nowadays, everybody and their seven-foot, 300-pound brother is launching from deep–and they’re making ’em.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that three-point records are falling across all levels of basketball, but even still, the performance that Campbell guards Marcus Burk and Chris Clemons put together on Tuesday night deserves to be celebrated.
The two teammates each knocked down 10 threes (!) in Campbell’s 94-85 win over Liberty, the first time in NCAA history that had happened.
Campbell as a team hit 23 of 33 three-point attempts (69.7 percent), which is a new Big South record in a conference game.
Clemons, who is the nation’s fourth-leading scorer at 25.2 ppg, hit 10 of 14 attempts and finished with 42 points. Burk went for 32 on 10-of-16 from deep.
So yeah, these dudes had themselves a night.
Campbell (12-9, 6-3/Big South) hasn’t reached the NCAA Tournament since 1992, but this could be the year the Fighting Camels return to the Dance. No one is going to want to play these guys with their season on the line in a one-and-done situation in the Big South tourney.
Check out the video above for a recap of their ridiculous night.
